Life’s journey is special because of those who walk with you

Every step you take constitutes a journey; ain't it nice to know there is someone to lead and another to make sure you don't stray.
Every step you take constitutes a journey; ain’t it nice to know there is someone to lead and another to make sure you don’t stray.

I have acknowledged most of the important women in my life in bits in past blog posts.  However, I have not taken time to publicly acknowledge and celebrate another 2 who have and continue to make a tremendous impact in my life.  They remain my pillars of strength and have shared in my darkest and brightest moments; been there every step of the way.  They are my sisters; Lynffer and Lysa.

To acknowledge these two ladies, I will share the thoughts I wrote for them when they both celebrated their wedding anniversaries recently.  It is no accident that by graceful design I was the “middle” child born with sisters on both sides.  It was as if a higher power decided I needed one to look up to and another to watch my back lest I fall along the way.

Lynffer is my oldest sister; married to Epa – a Ni-Vanuatuan and they have 3 energetic and wonderful children; Ensly, Lysareena and Lyndes.  She is a lawyer by profession and empowering women and children is her passion.  Lynffer and Epa make their home in Mbaranamba, Honiara, Solomon Islands.  She recently became the manager of the Family Support Centre.

“Amidst every boisterous laugh is the calm that soothes your pain.
Amidst every intimidating glare, is comfort wrapped in love.
When we falter, we see a flickering glow of hope.
She is that light; our pillar of strength in all things spiritual!
Because she prevailed, we can at least try again!
Happy 12th anniversary big sis.
God blessed you so that you can share his love with us.”

Lysa is the youngest in our family of four.  She is a marine biologist and the mother of the adorable newest bundle of joy to our family, Talita.  Lysa is married to Kellington and make their home in Naha, Honiara, Solomon Islands.  Changing the world is Lysa’s passion and she believes she can do that through her work with ICUN, her leadership of the YWPG and her basketball development program which aims to teach the game of basketball to young children.

“Our most sincere thoughts are with you as you celebrate this special occasion with the family.
May you reflect upon the two years and count the blessings that you have had.
God has had a hand in the valleys you have had to bear to make you strong.
He led you up a mountain to appreciate the goodness of His love.
And He will continue to bless you and your family because He cares.
Be grateful for the blessing of life.
That you have had one surrounded by those who care deeply about you.
Live for each day knowing that one act of kindness spreads the blessing far and near.”
Take time to celebrate the grace with which the women in your life have calmly impacted your life.  Share in their joys, their pain and make time to acknowledge their role in your life.  Women certainly need a lot more support in societies where we, males, often assume we have the God-given mandate to lead; even if sometimes we clearly don’t!  But Happy Mother’s day nonetheless; life’s toughest challenges are easier simply because you care…
