Been out a while, been busy a while

I have not been writing for a while. Too many things all happening at once. But three important events are happening that I am excited about. First two events relate to my other interests outside of computers, basketball and soccer – writing and producing plays. It may sound weird but I am a self taught writer who has done a few plays in my time. The other is my election/appointment to the interim chair of a committee set up to an IT society for the Solomon Islands.

I Wish Upon a Star
I Wish Upon a Star is an act that I have written. It is like a musical but it is not a musical in its truest sense – by that I mean if someone who has had experiences with writing and producing musicals were to show up, he/she would say WHAT? But I was not able to find a word that best describes the production and because it is based on playing musical instrument, singing and acting all incorporated into one single act, I thought a musical describes it best. Perhaps I should add, a Solomon Island style musical.

But I have had a long standing interest in writing, directing stage productions – I have had some success and interesting feedback. Its something I normally do when I am inspired. I remember when I was in high school I wrote a play for my older sister’s class. It was purely fictional but because it touched onto issues regarding suicide, teenage peer pressure quite a few mothers who attended that play cried. That was understandable. I wrote a similar play to this one a few years ago for the hotel where my dad works and they really loved the production. It ran for 3 consecutive years until my older brother was not able to produce the music any more. I attempted the fourth with other local musicians but it never had the same impact. Which brings me to the second act I am working on now.

Christmas Eve
I am now writing another script for a play for christmas. It might be a musical – I must find time to research on what a true musical is and attempt to write it. This one is going to be funded by the UNDP as part of its peace building process. So the final production will have a peace theme. But I am excited about this project simply because it will be the first time I would have done something that may have a national impact, well at least be produced and performed publicly.

IT Society for Solomon Islands
I was recently elected as interim chair of the committee set up to pursue our dream of establishing an IT organization for all IT professionals in the Solomon Islands. I am working on a concept paper now and that will be presented to all IT people in the Solomon Islands on November 17th 2009.

But perhaps the best news of all is, I am on holidays – I have taken my annual leave and the next time I set foot in my office it will be January 2010. I will probably have more time for this blog, Lifhaus and other projects I have been working on.
