The name is Lynnold Misifea Wini, a Solomon Islander and a “wannabe” geek who listens and is often inspired by 2PAC. This is my personal blog,”A Simple Mind”, borne out of my encounter with the movie; A Beautiful Mind.
I started my career as a web developer something I still thoroughly enjoy to this day. I love exploring new technology and I am easily inspired by beautiful things. Having looked under the hood in Drupal, I have set my sights on checking WordPress out. Its been great fun so far with heaps of very inspiring themes and plugins.
What are some of the work that I have done? Well that’s probably no big secret but one I will keep close to my chest for now. Other than that, I will be writing about football (the Americans call it soccer and is my lifetime passion) and basketball (the only sports I have played competitively), computers, my thoughts on life, Solomon Islands, some discussions with a political twist, web development and from time to time, random topics I hope you will find inspiring.
But read the blog, enjoy the thoughts and don’t go away without leaving a comment. Probably something to inspire me.
Lynnold would like to get in touch with you via email. Appreciated if you could respond by email please. Thanks.
Hi Gabriela, you can post them here or on the other threads about the NCRE. I must say though, the YPP process is quiet different to the NCRE.
Regards, Lynnold
Hello Lynnold,
I am applyingg for YPP, and had 2 questions for you regarding the process… if you could please email me, it would be extremely appreciated.
I’m glad if you could send me your contact(email address).
Thanks bro.
hi @Karan, i do not think the paper will deviate too much from the samples but do not take my word for it. But if you use the samples as basis it will be a good start. Unlike a university paper, the YPP will not give you a range of topics to concentrate on so you need to consider what needs the organization has. Eg. Software development so some proficiency in programming language and frameworks, database management will be important areas to cover. The organization naturally provides IT support for its infrastructure so basic understanding of helpdesk issues like networking will be important. Areas like IT development in artificial intelligence etc will be the last thing you would spend time on studying. So think about the organization and then imagine what its use of IT will be then focus on those areas. I think that is the best advice I can give to prepare for the exams.
Hey Lynold,
I just came to know about the YPP exam by the UN.Where do you think would be the best place to study for it?I am an IT professional and can really use some advice from the experts.
Best Karan
Hi Lynnold,
I’m contacting you in hope of obtaining some advice on humanitarian relief, INGO and Charities. I am contacting you with your friend’s advise, George Kuaia, because I don’t succeed in getting paid job in humanitarian relief and so on in particular in web design and engineering. If you would accept to talk to me about that in detail, I would certainly appreciate it. So, is it possible to get your cntact and address email?
Thank you,
Michael
Hey James, it has been a while. Good to hear that you are actively working on web stuff as well. Great tips.
Lynnold
Hi Lynnold,
Good to hear about your activities on the web. That’s the way to go. I have been working with WP for a while and I think its cool. Its simple and one can easily get around with it at no time. One of the best features I have come across in WP is LaTeX module/plugin as I always love typesetting in Maths environment.
PS:
If you have plans to somehow promote computer, internet and networking literacy in Solomon Islands, do not hesitate to inform me. Areas I would be pretty happy to help out in, is the spreading of Linux OS since not everyone in the Solomon Islands can afford to buy Microsoft systems. I have done some successful utilization, virtualization and distribution with VMWare both on Linux Distros and Windows Systems. Just some advance topics for discussions.
I have worked with Joomla CMS for more than 2 years now. It is the greatest tool I have ever come across after testing Samba for some years. It’s a learning curve at the beginning, but once you get used to it, there is no end to using different components and modules. One down side of Joomla is, once you decided to import more modules, integrate other components and plugins, you will experience a demand for bandwidth and therefore, higher computer/CPU power demand.
That’s the reason why I am turning to TikiWiki and MediaWiki a few days ago. TikiWiki is a CMS/GroupWare for collaborative activities. It is just as simple as WP and you can run in within an hour. You can check the demo site at lifhat.com (note, I have redirected the root directory to other directories so you may experience some latency on loading)
Well, it has been for a while now since 1997 at King Geirge VI school (Form Seven Science).
Lynnold,
This blog has been so inspiring to me in terms of the variety of content that you share. Especially when it comes to CS/IT related subjects.
Since discovering this site while browsing, a few weeks back, I bookmarked this site and visited it everyday. Just to check for new posts, or even to re-read the old posts.
Besides, I also found your website design (of this blog) itself to be amazing, and sophisticated, I should say. Other web users may not be challenged by website designs and functionalities, but since doing a bit of web development last semester, I can say that you really did a great job. (I wish my assignment last semester was exactly the same as this…lol)
I have started my interest to be a web developer, way back in 2005, when I was attached at Our Telekom, under a Student Work Experience program.
It was at that time I had the opportunity to work with Lynnold Wini (Maybe a different Lynnold…lol) at the Telekom Sales Department. At that time, I have no idea what web development is like, but it does ignited the interest I have now.
Anyways, like AJ, working beside someone like you is a dream.
With that, please do inspire me with more posts and hopefully you might think of posting something on webdevelopment.
Cheers.
Hi AJ, if you wish to email me, you can drop me an email on grafixfarm@gmail.com
Hi Lynold,
im impressed. I’m glad if you could send me your contact(email address).
Thanks bro.
Hi AJ, I wonder why? But its a great thought. Several things to consider. Firstly, I may be moving on soon. As you may have heard, I have been placed on the UN roster for employment after passing my NCRE exams. Read my other posts in this blog eg. this one: http://asimplemind.grafixfarm.com/?p=16 to know more about my UN experience. I encourage you to sit for the exams and while you may not work with me but you would have an opportunity to work for the UN too. However, if you set your sights on Our Telekom then tell me more about yourself, what you do and what skills you have. That is not a guarantee for employment here but I can keep my eyes open for any opportunities here that may suit your area of interest and capabilities. Bear in mind I do a lot of volunteer work (for free) and enjoy it very much too – that’s another option. All the best in your studies (I am only guessing!).
Hi bro, i would like to work wif you after graduating.
great blog bro!!!
Hi Kenton,
Thanks for commenting on the blog. The internet does make this world such a smaller place. come back again soon, hope to talk with you more on soccer.
